"I hope to see you on the byways, waterways, highways, and skyways of the Americas as you experience many great adventures." - Peter

Celebrate our National Park Service's centennial on August 25, 2016.

"Because no matter who you are, no matter where you live, our parks, our monuments, our lands, our waters - these places are our birthright as Americans" - President Barack Obama The National Park Service turns 100 on August 25, 2016. As we lead up to the centennial, we invite you to participate in Find Your Park experiences to learn, discover, be inspired, or simply have fun. Find Your Park Experiences offer unique opportunities to explore national parks both in person and online. Search all experiences to identify an opportunity that matches your interests or share your national park story at FindYourPark.com. Stories of America's diverse places and people are everywhere. Our stories are found across the landscapes of our nation, in more than 400 national parks, in National Heritage Areas, along historic trails and waterways, and in every neighborhood.

The United States and other countries in the Americas enjoy national parks filled with astonishing landscapes, wildlife and natural resources. These parks allow us to explore nature, view the past and protect their history.

Our National Park Services's mission is to perserve unimpaired, the natural and cultural resouces and values of the National Park System for our enjoyment, education, and inspiration. The National Park Service works with other agencies and individuals to broaden the assets of natural and cultural resource conservation as well as outdoor recreation throughout our country and the world.

National Trails Day! The first Saturday of June is known as National Trails Day, inspiring the public to discover, learn about and hike/walk/climb trails. Celebrate our rail system!

April 16–24: Visit for free! Throughout National Park Week in 2016, every national park will give you free admission!
April 16: National Junior Ranger Day!
Explore, Learn, Protect! Kids can take part in fun programs and earn a junior ranger badge or become a Centennial Junior Ranger.
April 22: Earth Day! On Earth Day, if you want to roll up your sleeves and pitch in with a project, look for a park where you can help out.
April 23: National Park Instameet! Join an InstaMeet in a park. Gather in a designated place at a specific time to take photos and short videos to post on Instagram (and other social media) with the same hashtag: #FindYourParkInstaMeet, #FindYourPark, #EncuentraTuParque, #NPS100
April 24: Park Rx Day! On Park Rx Day, parks will host fun recreational activities that encourage healthy lifestyles and promote physical and mental well being. (Looking to host your own event? Download A Guide to Planning Your Own National Park Rx Day Celebration [561KB PDF])
Don't forget to check out www.nationalparkweek.org! There you can share your national park photos, videos, and tips. While you're there, learn all about the ways you can help support your national parks all year round.

Find your park!
First enjoy inspirational videos. Explore the kind of park you would like to visit. Research the transportation and housing for your park visit. Then find a park to visit at http://www.findyourpark.com.

Hey fourth graders! See America's natural wonders and historical sites for FREE. For more information about this program, go to an official website of the US Government: https://www.everykidinapark.gov. President Barack Obama created Every Kid in a Park so fourth graders and their families could discover our wildlife, resources, and history for free.

The National Park Service invites you to discover American history in all its diversity, from ancient archeological places to the homes of poets and Presidents to the sobering stories of Civil War soldiers and civilians to the legacy of a courageous woman who refused to give up her seat on a bus. Our history is part of who we were, who we are, and who we will be.

Our national Heritage Initiatives are helping us to tell the stories of all Americans and recognizing the special places associated with our diverse past. Learn more about American history by exploring American Latino heritage and Asian American Pacific Islander heritage, Women's history, and LGBTQ history.

We invite you to explore historic preservation and the tools we use to help preserve and protect the places where history happened. Explore our cultural resource programs to find preservation assistance resources, grant information, internship and volunteer opportunities, and much more.

Travel Tips: Visiting a national park is easier than you might think. The hardest part is choosing between all of the parks and activities available. There are more than 400 national parks to choose from, so if you need a little help picking one, you're at the right place. The event calendar shares activities and ideas to inspire your planning.

Most national parks don't even charge an entrance fee. Admission for those parks that do range from $3 to $25, good for an entire carload of people for a week. And some days are fee free! An Annual Pass https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm, to all of our parks, is also an option.

Find A Park http://www.findyourpark.com gets you where you want to go. Select a park from the list or use the map to search by state. Once you've decided where you're headed, check out Plan Your Visit https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/index.htm section. You'll find great things to do, maps, calendars, directions, park brochures, and operating hours. Be sure to read the park's Basic Information section so you can have a safe, enjoyable visit. If you're traveling with children, learn more about the Junior Ranger Program. It's sure to be a hit with the kids If you're traveling with pets, be sure to check with the park. Many of our parks allow pets on leashes and in campgrounds, some even have kennels. You'll generally find pet information in the Plan Your Visit section or contact the park (see each park's Contact Us page for details). Check out http//:www.recreation.gov. You can make online reservations for some of our tours and campgrounds here, as well as learn about activities at other recreation sites. Once You Arrive: Stop by the park visitor center to pick up maps and guides and for up-to-the-minute information on everything from road conditions to hiking trails. Learn about the special programs offered in every park. Enjoy a ranger program or two-they offer something special for all ages and every interest. Ask a park ranger. These are some of the most knowledgeable people you will encounter on your travels … not to mention the friendliest! Be respectful of wild animals and keep your distance. The animals you may encounter in some national parks are not captive in a zoo-these animals are in their natural habitat and behave accordingly.

Remember-take only pictures, and leave only footprints.
